John is the Head of Derivative Counterparty Exposure Management focussing on all aspects of Counterparty Credit Risk at Absa Group, an international financial services group, within the Corporate and Investment Banking division. John has over 14 years of financial services experience in Ireland, the UK and Africa across multiple asset classes and with a proven track record of successfully formulating and executing innovative risk strategies enabling banks to operate effectively and efficiently.

Why are your sessions important to the industry and what do you think will be most interesting about it?

Increasing understanding and awareness regarding the various ways to assess Counterparty Credit Risk across products is imperative to appropriately manage risk and appropriately facilitate business. Touching on the depth of Directional Way Risk (Wrong/Right Way Risk), one of the most interesting and challenging topics affecting emerging market risk management today, always sparks debate and can often prompt deep portfolio analytics.

 

What do you see as the most challenging topics within the industry at the moment that your sessions will address?

I will address some of the most challenging issues within the industry right now from netting enforceability and margining in Emerging Markets to managing the full scope and depth of Wrong/Right Way Risk in an efficient manner.
